Anonymous rates this game: 4/5 Genre: Adventure-Action (single player) Platform: PlayStation, PlayStation Network Release: June 5, 1998 Alundra is considered a spiritual sequel to Climax Entertainment's Landstalker on the Sega Genesis. The game starts with Alundra being on a ship. After walking around and talking to the people, Alundra decides to take a nap. He has a mysterious dream where a strange being named Lars tells him that he is a wizard and one of the guardians of the seal. Suddenly, Alundra sees a vision from the village of Inoa. After that, Lars calls Alundra 'Releaser' and tells him that north of the village there is a dark lake and below it there has lied a demon for over 1000 years and now the demon has awakened once more. After telling this, a creature named Melzas appears and points out that nobody has the power to stop him, especially not a human like Alundra.
After talking with Lars about humans and the 'Releaser', Melzas disappears. Lars tells Alundra to travel to Inoa and stop the demon. Suddenly Alundra wakes up and after getting out of his cabin, he finds out that there is a huge storm above the ship.
The captain tells the crew not to worry but they sail into the reef and the ship breaks from the middle. After this Alundra loses consciousness. Alundra wakes up on a beach and a man named Jess comes and rescues him. In the village of Inoa, Alundra discovers he is a Dreamwalker and undertakes many quests, playing both in people's dreams and the village surroundings. Soon, he finds out he is the 'Releaser', destined to save the world from Melzas, an ancient demon on his quest to world domination, who is also responsible for people's nightmares.
First and foremost, this game is not a sequel to Alundra. It was never meant to be one. The game was called Alundra 2 to sell copies. Though now it is practically forgotten, believe it or not Alundra was a big hit back in the day. Instead of releasing Alundra 2 under it's real title they decided to slap on the sequel title to boost sales. This caused a major backlash however due to fan outrage and rightly so. Gone was Alundra (the main character)and the mature themes of the Zelda like classic.
This new game was an insult to its supposed predecessor and a further insult to the intelligence of gamers. As sequel to Alundra, this game is a travesty, but as a stand alone title it actually has merit. Flint's Grand Adventure would have been a much more apt title, but the developers decision to cash in on a beloved game and promising franchise bit them in the ass. Flint's Adventure is a charming game with a few flaws that prevent it from being great. The story may come off as bit childish, but it has its moments. Is it challenging? Not really, I suppose there are moments, but for the most part you shouldn't have any trouble.
There are puzzles, some of them even interesting but they lack the depth of the game it tried (and failed) to emulate. It may not be a sequel to an epic game, but it is still worth checking out. If you are looking for the same charm and an overall better game however, I highly suggest Brave Fencer Musashi.
